Butterick 6296
Fabric: I used the rest of my 10+ yards of ivory linen
Size: 18 with no adjustments & because they are loose PJs, fit
pretty well....did have issue with armhole...see below
Notions: vintage Wrights Tubular Bias (instead of piping) in dk grey
Things I changed as I worked:
1. Did not use shirt pocket as I didn't have enough piping
2. I used French Seams throughout
3. Shortened pants - highly unusual for me as I have a short body
and long legs
Things that went wrong and need to be changed for next time:
1. Stay Stitch the top collar area before doing anything. The
instructions have you do this well after handling the front, back
& collar pieces and I was lucky, this time, that nothing
stretched out of shape.
2. #4 Collar piece - the triangle markings were too close together
and resulted in a small amount of unfinished seam on each
shoulder/collar area. AND there was nothing to be done to
fix it....as it was too late! So, I measured and moved the
triangles out 1" on each side, for next attempt.
3. Lost #8 buttonhole guide, so used my Simflex AND only used
3 buttons, because that was all I had in that size and the right
color.
4. Cut down #18 elastic guide for waistband to a size 16, as 18
was toooo long.
5. The armholes were too long and make movement slightly
difficult, not unwearable, but needs fixing for next PJs. I
raised the armhole by 3/4" and the sleeves to match. Hope
I did it correctly, have never done this adjustment before.
Finally, I really like how these look, despite minor issues. However, I think I might order Closet Case Files Carolyn PJs to compare.......when I want to make PJs again. This has been the hardest thing I have made that fit wasn't a huge issue. They probably look a little HAPPY HANDS, but I'm not wearing them out of the house, so am relatively happy with them.
NEXT.......a t-shirt or something easy!!
