Vogue 9015 Robe
So, I'm going to try out this blogging thing, as a way to record my sewing triumphs and failures.
I used some stretch lace that I bought on eBay a million years ago, cut it in half, so I wouldn't be dragging my sleeve in whatever. The thing is, I have some fabric that is the exact color as the lace...piping for the PJs!! I MAY remove it later. We shall see.
Last year, I made the robe from Vogue 9015. I cut a Size 22 because I like big robes AND I was bigger last year. It WAS a bit too big, but not unwearable. I'm guessing I needed an FBA, as the front closed weirdly...it would gape open, even though the rest of it was PLENTY big. Yea...FBA...I keep thinking I can get away without doing this, but the fact is...I can not.
What I have been wanting is a simple linen robe....preferably in a neutral color.
So, for my first project of the year, I pulled out 10 yards of an ivory 100% linen or a linen/cotton fabric that I have had for at least 10 years. I have no idea where or when I bought it. But, it's a lot of fabric, taking up a lot of room, so decided to finally use it. I'm planning on making a pair of pjs with what's left.
I cut a size 18. Here are measurements:
Bust Me: 42 Size 18: 40 1" FBA
Chest Me: 38 Size 18: 38
Waist Me: 36 Size 18: 32 loose robe, no adj.
Hip Me: 42 Size 18: 42
HeightMe: 5'8" Size 18: 5'6" add 2" length

Here are my adjustments to the pattern:
1. 1" FBA with no dart.....got that from Maria Denmark's Wrap Dress FBA tutorial. I think it worked!!
2. Added 5" to length from bottom hem. Somehow, I had to cut off 2" on one front and 3" off the other front to be even with the back. WHY?!?!? ...Think it had something to do with the FBA?
Still, in the end it produced a good length for a long robe.
3. Cut 3 loop pieces....2 for tie loops and 1 for inside back neck to hang on robe hook.
4. I did not do the back tucks for the tie.....I, almost immediately, ripped it out of last year's robe. So I just cut the tie 76" long, and am tying it around my waist the normal way.
5. I sewed french seams throughout....even the armholes!! This worked out great, except, I kept getting confused about which side to baste the inside ties and loops.....but I muddled through it with lots of ripping out and finally got it right.
