Vogue 1314 Dress - FAILURE

I swear I tried!  I muslined this, ordered a light power mesh for the lining, used a fun ITY knit from FabricMart.....but there were 3 big problems that have made this unwearable:

1. the neckline....all stretched out.  The original neckline was awful.  Cut it out, and added a long turtleneck, which worked, but the seam that I originally cut out made the new neckline seam too low and it looked weird.  Then I cut that one out and drafted my own binding.  Sewed it in, and left it up, showing.  And I should have left well enough alone, but NOOOO....I understitched it (totally stretching it out, lesson learned) and turned it under.  NOPE!

2.  The side seam gathering was not enough.  It didn't look as good as the cover photo, which looks fantastic.  It needs to be a tighter gather IMHO.

3.  The color.  I love houndstooth.  I look terrible in black.  I'm a spring...believe in it or not.  But, I'm here to tell you I look like death in black.  I ordered this houndstooth because it has brown in in.  Wishful thinking, it still has a LOT of black, and not very much brown, and the wrong shade of brown.  Guess I was caught up in a FabricMart sale, those happen too much!!!

Bottom line, it is not worth sweating over this dress anymore....even if it was perfect, I would look awful in it due to above mentioned BLACK.  Another lesson learned.  Learning a lot of them these days!!

So, Im going to harvest the power net and make panties....my favorite thing to do with knits when disaster strikes.  ITY, I have found, is a little too thick for panties, although I certainly have made them, we'll see.......
